Disorganization

Not sure what to write about today, do I complain about people who phone me with no idea who they are phoning or why they are calling? Or do I talk about the lady who yelled at me on Boxing day because she wasnt clear about what she wanted, but made it sound like it was my fault. I could also talk about how lethargic I have been at work lately, but really, that's nothing new.

I could talk about the messed up weather here, how one week its absolutely dangerously cold and now this week its warm and snowing and winter warning weather. Its abslutely messed up. They are calling for lots of snow and frozen rain today and snow tonight, blizzard like even. Gotta love the weather here in the winter.

I could talk about how World of Warcraft is slowling releasing its hold on me. I DIDNT play all night last night and I even found time to go outside for a little while. Shauna and I walked down to the local shoppers drug mart, did a little shopping and got some food at the safeway. Right now I am passed the initial OMG phase of playing the game and I am beginning to get to the part where I am just trying to level up and find new stuff. I would love to try and take part in the forums, but it seems to me that the forums for the game are filled with morons and idiots and well.... other assorted dumb people.

Well, time for lunch, more later.

"I call on every man and woman of good will all over America today
...to take a stand on this issue. Tomorrow may be too late. The book
may close. Don't let anyone make you think that God chose America as
his divine messianic force, to be a sort of policeman of the whole
world. God has a way of standing before the nations with judgement, and
it seems that I can hear God saying to America 'You are too arrogant!
If you don't change your ways, I will rise up and break the backbone of
your power! And I will place it in the hands of a nation that doesn't
even know my name. Be still and know that I am God.'"

Holiday Wishes

To you and yours, I wish you the very best.

May your holiday season be all that you wish for.

Friday Morning

December 24, Christmas eve, "twas the night before" and all that. That's today!

We are almost again at the aniversary of the blog too! Expect a longer post on the 30th about the blog, its history and maybe some plain old news.

We are having a friend over for christmas cheer tonight, and from all accounts, it sounds like he needs it. He had a bad episode with his bank who decided out of the blue to change his PIN number on him because of some erratic spending habits as of late. Hopefully he will come over and we can keep his holiday cheer from dying out...or killing anyone else.

Now would probably be a good time to talk about the FARMER SAUSAGE story. Now I hope you dont get your hopes up, it isnt very long and may not be the belly laugh for you as it is for me. That being said, it may be.

When I worked at the Bay there was an elderly lady who shopped there every day and who as fairly hard of hearing and just on the verge of being VERY senile. Now most of those patrons who frequent the Bay grocery store with any sort of regularity fall into the "old and senile" category, she however, was different. This elderly lady had a problem with yelling at customers and employees. Now one day, she came throught he store and pressed the buzzer at the meat room door to talk to one of the butchers. Now I JUST happen to be walking by and I heard the following exchange:

BZZZZZZZ!
Jason: Hi there, how can I help you?
Old Lady: Do you have any Farmer Sausage?
Jason: What kind? (Meaning what brand as well sell three different brands)
Old Lady: (at the top of her lungs) FARMER SAUSAGE!!!
Jason: (quietly filled with surpressed laughter)

Hehehe, Jason showed her where the sausages were and she went on her merry way. From that day on, all we had to do to crack each other up was to walk into the meat room and holler "FARMER SAUSAGE!!!"

(Jason, maybe this was a "You had to be there story")

Late Night

The house is quiet and cold and your warm bed is calling your name. It's at a time like this when things can either be right with the world or not. They can give you hope or give you despair.

Tonight as I head to bed, I want the small feelings I have inside to be hope. Hope that time heals all wounds and that true friends forgive, even for the worst mistakes.

Hopefully as you head to bed tonight, your thinking of the same thing.

Stories From The Grocery Store

Got an Email from a friend who still works in the grocery store where I used to work. None of the names have been changed....cuz im too lazy...enjoy!

hey Andrew, i've got a neat little story for you...

So anyway, I'm sitting in the meat room with Adam just talkin about whatever, when the buzzer goes off. I look out the door and there is this old (duh) guy standing there. I open the door and the first thing I notice is this big ass light taped on front of his walker. I sort of laugh at myself thinking that this guy must look like the slowest moving motorcycle comming at you at night (lol) anyhoo the conversation goes like this...

Old Guy: Do you have any cabbage rolls?
Me: Yeah sure they are just there on the Alycia's cooler.
Old Guy: I can't see anything (hence the bigass light)
can you walk me over there?
Me: ok

Now as we are walking towards the cooler I ask him...

Me: How many cabbage rolls did you want?
Old Guy: HUH?!
Me: oh sorry how many cabbage rolls did you want?
Old Guy: I CAN'T HEAR!

Oh great now I got a guy who can't see or hear, this should be fun. I show him the cabbage rolls and he agrees to buy a couple of them (by the way at this point I'm still laughing the the big light in front of his walker)....

Old Guy: now can you show me how to get out of here?
Me: Yeah why not

As we are walking up to the cashiers he asks me a couple of questions about the turkey for Christmas and a few other things and as we part he says

OG: say son what was your name?
Me: Jason
OG: HUH?!
Me: Jason
OG: I CAN"T HEAR YOU!
Me: JASON!!!
OG: STEVE?!!!!!

at this point I was trying my hardest not to laugh at the old guys face, It was made harder by the fact that, I guess the old man was straining to hear me and accidently turned on the big ass headlight in front of his walker when he yelled "STEVE?!!!" OH Man I tell ya all he saw was me with a big grin on my face, I ran to the meat room and was on the floor laughing. kinda reminded me of FARMER SAUSAGE!!!!
Anyway thats the story.... lol steve.... doesn't even sound like jason.....

I think tomorrow I will tell the Farmer Sausage story.

Blah

Middle of the day, machines getting worked on all around me and I am bored out of my mind. I am working and calling and talking and putting together, but I am still bored. I dont think its boredom with the job, but rather, its not very exciting today.

World of Warcraft got another content update last night and again it took forever for me to download and install it. 39 MB took me 3 hours to download! I have high speed internet for a reason! I tried using the peer-to-peer feature for the download, which in theory is supposed to allow me to download a portion of the file from all the other folks who are doing the same thing. Yet last night, I was sending out a lot more of the file then I was getting back, so I stopped it and downloaded it right and only from Blizzard. A lot of people were mad about how long the download was taking, no matter what route they took. I was also surprised to see a lot of links on the forums for mirrors to get the file, none of which were associated with Blizzard in any way. I think that they noticed how slowly people were getting the patch and allowed the links on the forums to remain.

While I was waiting for the download to complete, I was reading the Technical Forums and what trouble people were having, and it didnt leave me with a good feeling. A large number of people were having no end of trouble with all sorts of things, from blue screens of death to failed log ons and a host of other problems. It appeared to be mostly related to drivers either for video cards or sound cards. Thankfully when I was finnished downloading and installing the patch, I was able to play the game right away with no troubles at all.

The weather the last couple days has been absolutely terrible and I am beginning to hate it a lot and I mean A LOT. I hate being this cold, I hate all the aches and pains that come with the cold weather and I HATE slipping and falling on ice. Whenever it gets cold like this, I usually begin to think of the west coast constantly. All of my visits to the west coast of Canada are ones that I fully enjoyed (even the time I went there for work reasons) and I love the cities of Vancover and Victoria. When the weather gets really really cold like this, I begin to seriously think of moving there and talk about it almost non stop. The unfortunate thing is, it appears that Shauna doest want to move out there. When we talk about it, she sometimes says she doesnt want to move out there because we dont know anyone out there and sometimes she says that the winter cold isnt so bad here and that it would be worse on the coast with all the rain. I am not really sure what the real reason is but I would like to know it. Is it a big deal that she doesnt want to go? Not really, but it might be a big deal later. I find that every year I live here, the more I want to move away. For now, we will keep living here and I will occasionally bring it up, but I think one day we will have to make a decision about it.

Done for now, I will try and find some links for you.

Spyware

This article is pretty good and very smart. It talks about what you can do to protect yourself and your computer from trouble. All of it makes sense and is easy enough to do on your own. The only thing I think is a little off is the "dont use windows" suggestion. 90% of "average" users use Windows, mostly those people who work in offices and in some schools. (Note that I am aware that this is a huge sterotype and generalization), I think its better to try and suggest ways to make Windows as safe as it can be.

Go here for nice pictures of a bridge in Vancouver.

Monday Morning

Rather then complain about how bad certain things are going I am going to try and talk about the good things.

Saturday was a busy day, more busy then I have been used to really. Saturday morning I was helping a good friend move from her very small and unpleasent apartment to a much larger and nicer apartment she procured from a housing cooperative in our city. She attends school and is raising a young daughter on her own and felt the co-op was the best place for her. The apartment we helped her move into was much larger and nicer then the one she moved out of. There were a couple people helping out that I hadn't seen in a long time and it was good to chat with them for a while.

Saturday night I was out with friends for a while, but called it quits around 11 and came home. Was feeling a little off and when I came home I was ready for bed, but not before some more World of Warcraft, have I mentioned lately how wicked this game is?

The only good thing about Sunday was that I slept ALOT. I got up in the morning and was feeling a little off and I was pretty tired still. So at about 9am, I went to the couch for a nap. At 4pm Shauna woke me up and told me what time it was. I felt a little better but was still pretty tired and out of it. So I eventually got up, we went grocery shopping for dinner and then came home. The night went as most Sunday nights usally do, dinner and myth busters on the tv.

Thats how the weekend went. I will try and do some links today.

Links

Been reading about this all over the internet for the last couple of days, it appears that Blockbuster is going to be doing away with late fees. You can read one of the many articles written about this bit of news here.

Something very interesting is happening over at Google these days. It appears that the search engine giant is making a bold move to begin the digitization of a large collection of books from serveral universities in the united states and england. This bit of information comes right on the heels of Google beginning Google Scholar Search (see it here). I think this an absolutely brilliant idea. When the "Internet" first began, it was a collection of universities and labratories connected together for the purpose of exchanging information. Now the Internet is a place to get cheap V i agra or pron. It will be good to see some literature out on the highway.

This is my life. It's sad but true.

Open Again

I desperately want to write here. I read other peoples blogs and web pages and wish that I could a) write as often as they do and b) write as well as they do. Now that comment should be tempered with the fact that I know there are thousands and thousands of blogs out there that are boring and inane. I try and keep my stupid stuff to a bare minimum, but sometimes you will see a handful of things in here that are selfserving and done only to make me feel better. I try and keep the spelling mistakes to a minimum and I hope that my grammer isn't too bad. I try not to talk about things I don't understand or don't know, so as to keep myself from sounding like a complete idiot, so you wont see a lot of political commentary here or social commentary either.

I stopped writing here last week for a handful of reasons, some of which I wont talk about and some of which I may talk about later. I don't say that to be mysterious or coy, but rather that I don't really know how to talk about them. Some of which are personal and some of which are just things that are messed up in my head. Lets be honest here, ALL bloggers write on the internet for the attention we will get, are getting or hope to get. Honestly, I can't even get my loved ones to come here regularly. I have to remind some people to come here and only a couple friends come here with any sort of regularity (to my LJ friends, I read my LJ friends list EVERY DAY without fail). So, what can I do to get more readers? Well, for one, write more interesting stuff I guess, give people a reason to WANT to come here. So, as of today, I will make a very big effort to put interesting links, comments about day to day stuff and a smattering of items not related to me (after I talk about me of course).

I have turned on the comments again and the trackbacks again. If you come here and read this, PLEASE comment. You dont have to say much of anything, just a "Hi, I was here." is enough. I see that I get a few random visitors a week and I would really like to know who you are and how or why you found me. For those of you who spam my comments with links to casinos and poker web sites, your work is logged, and will be sent to your Internet Service Provider. Ok, who am I kidding, you spammers are doing it from places where they dont care who you spam and where they are. But that doesnt mean I wont try.

Ok, so lets try this again.

Closed

Until further notice.

I dont feel like writing. I email you matthew, often enough to let you know how things are going, so for the time being, I am currently "away from the blog".

Wanting To Write

Some things have been on my mind this week and I have been wanting to write about them, but not sure about how to get it started or what to really say.

Perhaps there will be a large post later today.
