Ok, I was going to make an entry about how a customer yelled at me, but first, I think I will rant about someone else.
First. Bingo people, stop spamming me. For real now.
Your Whois info came back as:
****Go look in the extended entry section*****
I will follow up on this if I have to. You are someone who is ruining it for everyone else.
Next.
Today we had one of our technicians arranged to go to someone's home to do an onsite service. The technician arrived, rang the doorbell, knocked on the door and when no one came, phoned the house. After 5 minutes, when no one answered the door, he left. All sensible stuff right? Apparently not.
Mrs. K, called our service area and I picked up the phone. At first she was curt and wanted to know why the HELL he hadnt waited for her son to answer the door. I told her I would find out and call her back.
Cut to me calling our tech. Who says, nope, I knocked and rang and phoned. No one was there. I call Mrs. K back and tell her that he was there for five minutes and that no one answered the door. So, she stops being curt and goes to fuming. She tells me that this has taken far too long, that she doesnt care about what parts she gets and that Dennis' SHOULD have waited. She says her son was in the washroom. I tell her that Dennis' cant come back today and she gets a lot more angry.
After the yelling stopped, I asked her to hold and I checked for Dennis' availability. Her response to this was "One minute, I am at WORK."
WE arrange for Dennis to go out tomorrow at 10:30am. She then yells at me saying that she doesnt know when someone will be there and that I would have to call someone who does. After she gave up the information, she hung up on me.
NOW. FOLKS. If your angry at me, then tell me your very unhappy and that you would like the situation rectified. Yelling at me does nothing but make me angry at you. Was it my fault today that your son couldnt get to the door in five minutes? Nope. Was it my fault that we didnt have the parts for your order? Nope. Then yelling at me may have made you feel better but it didnt help, why? Well for one, it made me mad at you. I dont like getting yelled at for something that isnt my fault. When I found out that it wasnt our fault at all, then it made me not care at all about your problem. See if you yell at me, and its YOUR fault, then I stop caring about your problem. Lastly, I hate getting hung up on. Theres no need to call and treat me like crap. No reason at all. If you got a beef, call my boss and tell him so that he can yell at me, thats his job.
So to sum all this up..
You Bingo bastards, leave me alone.

To the screaming lady, thanks, you made my day. Love you lots.

Almost time to go home.

Less then 24 hours after unlocking the comments for Random Fusion, the bastards are spamming me again. Like it was almost immediately.
So, I am going to look up the next spam comment and track down these guys and report them to their ISP.
If that doest work, then we will figure something else out.
Sigh, isnt it nice that there are such good people out there? Folks who not only want to fill up your inbox with crap, they want to ruin your web page to boot.
To those Bingo bastards, give it a rest you morons.
Are back up, I am going to play with the settings for the next little while and see what I can do.
Right now, they are set to "Moderated" which means I have to approve them before they get seen. Lets see how this works.
If you read this, then comment please.
Found this by accident:
This looks like a really good movie. Not sure why, but it moved me.
Anyway, late night, time for Zs
Cat is telling me its time for bed.
Try saying assburger without giggling.
As winter begins to take hold, the days are getting shorter and shorter.
This morning it was almost compeltely dark when I got to work at 7:45 and its going to get darker. I had thought that it would snow last night but thankfully it didnt.
I am going to be taking tomorrow off of work so there might actually be a longer post then this in the morning.
I love that full feeling you get when you have your favourite food for dinner and you just eat till you cant eat any more.
Shauna made one of my favourite meals tonight, Shepherds Pie.
I am so full its hard to think.
I am going to go lay down again.
Its turkey day here in Canada and that means lots and lots of food. It has slightly different connotations here then it does in the states. For our brothers down south, Thanksgiving is kind of like practice for Christmas. Its a huge, and I mean huge day. Lots of plans are made, lots of shopping is done for the big day and it marks the last day before christmas shopping can begin. The minute thanksgiving is over in the states, the christmas decorations go up over night and its a mad rush to December 25. Today should be less crazy for us. I will be attempting to enjoy turkey at my dads place with my both my parents, my dads parents and his sister, my brother and his girlfriend, Shauna and my moms friend (who got added to the meal at the last moment it appears). Lets hope things go well.
As per the big news item of the day, the passing of Christopher Reeve, I will leave it as this: He WAS superman. Both in and out of the costume. He was a superhero. True and clean and the best man for the job. I hope that the next man to wear the tights in a movie, is a good man and respects who came before him.
Sun is shinging today, there doesnt appear to be much wind blowing and all the leaves are a golden colour. I love this time of year, when the weather is warm, almost all the leaves are on the ground and there is a hint of woodsmoke or field smoke in the air (around our city are lots of farms, tons of them, and in the fall the farmers burn off the remaining stubble to make way for next springs crops).
The Blog
Yesterday afternoon I finally switched over to the newest version of Movable Type. Partly because the version I was using was a little old and had some security holes in it that had since been fixed and some new features that I wanted to take advantage of.
One of the newest feature sets is the ability to have greater control over who and who can not leave comments on my blog. This is something that I have desperately wanted to implement for the last two weeks or so. For the sake of spreading their web page links, much like VD, a online poker site had been spamming my comments section, sometimes dumping up to 50 comments a day. Unfortunately, banning the IP of the spammers wasnt working and the posts they were spamming were changing on a daily basis. The newest version of Movable Type allows me to lock down all the comments to only those folks who have a TypeKey key. Basically TypeKey is a registration web site for users and readers of Movable Type (MT) blogs. People who use MT need to register for a TypeKey Key to download and use MT and those folks who want to leave comments on blogs like mine that are locked down, need to register for key. How it works for those folks who are just readers, I'm not sure. But for the moment, this is way things will be. I know a couple people out there read but dont comment all the time, so I will just have to immagine what you might say. Heh.
So far I am pleased with how the new MT looks and works and I think that this is only going to get better as Movable Type and Six Apart get more and more popular. I wont go into great detail about the program as I really havent used it that much yet to give a review. But based on my initial first impression, things can only get better and better and I am very pleased about that.
The Man
Working lots. Lots and Lots. I usually head into work with Shauna about two hours early for my shift and stay a couple hours after she leaves about 8 hours later. A despite all that work, I still cant seem to get more then three computers a day done. Sure there are some days where I get four or so done, but those are the ones where its just a simple install or someone complaining about their CDROM being too noisy (when it wasnt). I am enjoying the work, to a degree. At some points, when things arent going right and it seems I cant get anything done to save my life, the day sucks ass, I get a headache and I want to go postal on everyone within gun range. Those days suck. On the days where things go right, I get a decent number of machines fixed and I am feeling good, then I love my job and the people I work with. Thats one thing I am very greatful for. All the guys I work directly with, I like to one degree or another. Its always makes going to work easier when you like the people you work with.
A couple of weeks ago, I attempted to re-establish contact with someone I knew from a few years ago that I had wronged. A few years had past since then and I felt that I wanted to talk to him again, to try and get a friendship going again. We traded two emails and I havent heard anything back from him, which for the moment, I will take to mean that he really has no interest in becoming friends again. It doesn't feel all that great, but I can respect it. I guess thats part of being grown up, the realization that not everyone likes you and the ability to not let it bother you. I do appreciate the fact that he responded to my email in a polite manner. He was polite, friendly but didnt give me any false impressions.
Anyway, I think I will cut this off here and maybe come back some more later.
Well, as you can see things are a little different around here today. Thanks to Reddz and MT (but mostly Reddz) I am now using the newest version of Movable Type.
Those folks who have commented on here before and now can not, I apologize, but I have it set up to not allow comments anymore.
To the spamming bastards From the online poker place: Burn in hell you bastards. 400 comments from you alone over the course of a week was a pain in the ass.
I will write a longer entry later this weekend.
Not too much to talk about today, really. The wind is blowing hard outside and it appears that winter may be making its first attempts at settling in right now. I dont hate the cold as much as I wish the warm fall would hang around longer.
The past little while has been filled with a lot of nothing really. Except that Shauna started working at Mind Computers this past week. I would say she's working with me at Mind, but she really isnt and our two jobs really have nothing to do with each other. She was hired on to be a packer in the shipping department of the company but ended up being drafted into the picking department, the inventory department, the RMA department and the assembly line area. So far she seems to be enjoying it and her only beef is the early hour she has to get up at to go to work (can you blame her?). I am glad that she got the work and will be supporting her like mad during the weeks that she has to work at Mind and at the hospital (which will give her two days off in 14). Being out of the apartment during the day is helping her quit smoking since her hands are busy all day long.
Two things are taking up 99% of my time right now: work and sleep. I work from about 7:45 to about 5 and I sleep from about 11 to 6am. That isnt leaving a whole lot of time to do stuff. Take away two of those remaining hours just to get to and from work each day, two more hours for me to have breakfast and dinner and then an hour to say, do random stuff. That leaves me with about (give or take my bad math) an hour of random time to do whatever I want and there you have why the blog is so empty these days. I would like to write more often and get more of my life in here, but I have so little time to get to it that it falls by the way side. Perhaps once the new version of MT is installed for me, I will be hit with a renewed vigor for writing here.
Work, for me, is going well enough. I have made some mistakes, upset one or two customers and only been told not to do one or two things. Which, I imagine, is routine for someone at a new job. I dont believe that everyone jumps into a new job and immediately becomes a super employee. I am enjoying the work (to a degree) and I like the people I work with and for. My fellow technicians are helpful and nice (but not so nice as to give me the occasional hard time when I do something wrong) and my boss is friendly, supportive and approachable. Something that I really havent seen too often in my working years.
Anyway, this should be enough for a Sunday afternoon. Maybe I will be posting something more meaty tonight or tomorrow. No bombshells, but something more then an update.
