That thing..

Jason:

That funny thing I said before? That I said I would write about? Remember? Well, I didnt. I cant remember what the hell I said.

Mornings

Are my least favourite time of the day. I am, by nature, a night owl. I have always been a night owl and I prefer to do things late at night. I hate the fact that the only thing open here past 2am are 7-11s. There is one 24 hour drug store near my place and that is it (as far as I know). Granted, most of the time all I want at 2am is a little food or maybe some cola to drink. But it would be nice to know if I wanted to go grocery shopping at 2am I could.

Across the the prairies, everything closes early. The smaller the town, the earlier things close. My mom lived, for a while, near a very small town in mid-western manitoba and we would go there all the time for food and drinks and other items. However, you always had to go early in the day if you wanted to make sure the store would be open. Things, literally, closed down at about 4pm.

The bigger cities are no different, the stores just close at a later time. Winnipeg is still stuck in its farm town ways. Things should not be open on Sunday, they should close before dark during the week and people should need to buy ANYTHING after 6pm.

Sometimes this place drives me nuts.

Whew!

Well, the hard stuff is now done on the site. The main page, the links page, the archives page and the other archive pages are now looking good. I know some content is repeated in some places. I will get around to fixing it right away. But for the time being. Its good enough for me to go to sleep with tonight.

Mixed Links

Cool featurette of I, Robot. This looks liks a very cool movie and I am so looking forward to seeing it.

It looks like Tom Hanks has another excellent film on his hands. The trailer for The Terminal can be seen here, check it out.

It looks like Google is about to go IPO soon, this week even.

This looks absolutely excellent, a remake of The Manchurian Candidate.

If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.

Hahahahahaha

New Look

Well, I know I promised a new look last week and never did it (I didn't lie about it, I just got side tracked is all), which I felt bad about, so I did a new look this weekend. Well, rather a re-done old look which only lasted about two days. This one should last a little longer I hope. Everything is in place except for a couple of the archives pages which need to be put into the new layout. Other then that, the look is done for now. This is the longest I have ever gone with one look since I learned how to really mess with my css.

The weekend was short, very short indeed. I worked Saturday and slept most of Sunday away. I had been tired all week and I think it just caught up with me. I slept the night away, got up at 7am ish and was up for a grand total of three hours before crashing again for another 8 or so hours. I hope that the coming week isnt too hard so that it happens again.

Nothing new to talk about tech wise at the moment. In the morning I will put together a couple links and notes for you all.

Night.

Life Related

I will be honest readers, not in an attempt to get sympathy, but just to be honest (I guess both with you and myself), things are not good. I know there are people out there who can say "You know, there are starving people living on the streets here in your very own city, let alone around the rest of the world." Thats true, and when I think of my own situtation, I do think of the fact that there are people in my city here and around the world who have it far worse off then I go, FAR worse. However, saying that and accepting it, doesnt put food on my plate at night, pay the bill collectors who are continuously threatening to turn off either my power or my tv or my phone. Thinking that there are homeless people not that far from my apartment, doesnt help me pay rent and it doesnt help me keep said apartment clean.

I try not to talk about what's wrong that often. If asked how things are going, 99 percent of the time, I will respond with "Not bad and you?" since it's just easier to say that then, "Well, I just got paid today and minus my student and bank loan, I have $150.00 to feed another person, and two cats for two weeks. Oh yea, the telephone people want $80.00 today." But dude, you ask, why then are you talking about it here and now? Well, I guess this is more for me then anything else. I have some people helping me out to find work and I am calling and looking and emailing for work, but it isnt there and while I am trying to find something new, I work 40 hours a week at a job that is emotionally and physically draining, all the while knowing, that no matter how hard I work that day, it wont pay me enough to live properly.

I know that someone is going to read this and blame herself for our lack of money. It isnt her fault. She does what she can to work. She makes the same sacrifices I make and suffers along with me. I wish someone else would read this and blame themselves, because I tend to every day and almost every hour. I made a bad choice and someone took advantage of me, lied to me and then, when I was no longer useful (or perhaps I was getting to resistant to their stories) I was made to quit. That person I do blame. Not that I am bitter or anything (nooo not bitter).

I know I need to find something soon. VERY soon. If I dont, I fully beleive a downward spiral will begin to occur. Tv and Internet will be lost, then our phone and then our apartment. I fully believe that there will be trouble at home, the stress of such trouble is being felt already and I hate that. I hate that I am so stressed out about all of this and I hate that I am tired all the time and I hate that I cant buy myself new shoes because we need that money to eat for two weeks. To the person who should feel bad, but most like doesnt have a clue: I am broke, loosing money, living day to day, in serious financial trouble, eating too little and I am probably working on a good stress related heart attack, thank you. I hope that your comfortable in your home, at your work and in your car.

I turned them back on for two days and I got four spams on old entries. I know I can set up a black list and such, but for the moment I am going to wait till MT 3 makes an appearance. Until then, if you have something to say, email me.

Keep your eyes glued to this page for a new look.

Hopefully I will have something by the end of the weekend.

Random Title Here

I tired to think of a title to go with this evenings ramblings, but I couldn't, so I put something unrelated there and began this blurb.

I thought today being Easter Sunday and that it has been all over the tv today and for most of the weekend, I thought I would finally give my review of The Passion. Shauna and I saw the movie several weeks ago and I think I made a short post about it that night, but didnt go into much detail about it since I was, for lack of a better phrase, "out of sorts".

I felt after watching the movie (and Shauna and I argued about this point for many hours) that the message was "this is the suffering that Jesus went through for you. This is the pain he felt, this is the anguish he had inflicted upon him and in the end this was his death". I believe Mel was trying to bring focus back to the sacrifice Jesus made.

The number one criticism that people have had of this movie is that promotes anti-semitism. In my mind, nothing could be further from the truth. Fear promotes anti-semitism, lack of intelligence promotes anti-semitism and a lack of understanding promotes anti-semitism. Jesus was a jew. Jesus wasnt the first christian, in fact, for the first few decades after His death, ALL of Jesus' followers were strictly Hebrew. The message that Jesus promoted while his was alive was that of love and forgiveness and in the end, he was put to death for political reasons. At the time of Jesus' teachings, Jerusalem was under heavy roman rule. Rome was growing powerful in those years and the Empire was not known for its peacful rule. It is my understanding that the Hebrew powers that be (both the king and the priests of the temple) felt a agitator, such as Jesus appeared to be, would bring instability to the region. Instability could mean the end to the special religious rights the jews had, a set of rights no other religion in the empire had. To prevent trouble, the priest, for the lack of a better term, sold Jesus out. Possibly not out of any great desire to do so, but perhaps because they saw the big picture. To save a nation and a religion, they gave up a lowly carpenter from Nazareth. To tell this in a movie, in my mind, does not promote anti-semitism.

The second most quoted criticism of the movie, was the violence and the gore. True, the movie had a lot of blood in it as well as some violent scenes. But I felt that it gave the message weight. Jesus suffered and died for us. That is no small thing. He was tortured, abuse and in the end, killed in a excruciating manner, to wash away our sins. To show this sacrifice in other way would have down-played the importance His sacrifice.

The last critique I want to address is the subtitles. I read a couple quotes from reviewers stating that it was a distraction and irrelivant to have the movie done in aramaic and latin. Irrelivant? Those were the languages spoken at the time! Jesus didn't speak english! He spoke hebrew and latin and aramaic! The same language that other people spoke! How could having him speak those languages be anything other then a improvement to the movie?

I could go on and on about this, but I wont. I felt the movie was very powerful. It could have been longer, but it showed what it had to and in such a way as to stir in me a desire to know more of the man and the message he taught. I have always had a historical curiosity of the man and to a minor degree a fascination with Christianity. I have numerous books on my bookshelf that touch on the man and His message, ideas that he spread and even works of fiction about Him, all of which might get a dusting and some time off the shelf and by my bed.

A little IT related stuff for the tech heads.

I added a couple new links in my blog rolling section.

Bink.nu is a good site for Microsoft stuff. Lots of links, postings and intelligent information. This is a site for the more geeky of the tech heads.

Mac heads can now find some more stuff at this site. MacIT is a new one to my list and something I check out every other day. You should too.

Lastly, as the adventures of Carrie end on Sex in the City, another girl begins her adventures in the town that never sleeps. This Fish is a well written site I now read on a very regular basis. Witty, charming and seemingly down to earth, the young lady behind this site has begun a new life in the big apple. I have already been moved almost to tears over her troubles so far. Read her site.

Another Day In Paradise

I have been in a writing rut as of late and haven't really felt like writing much. Not that anything really important has happened. Both Shauna and I are moving along as usual and things are getting by. I kind of wish I DID have something to write about. I hate checking in on the site every day and not being able to add something.

Well, that exhausts my limit of writing for this morning. Maybe something at work will inspire me.

Spam Bastards

For the time being, I have had to kill the comments on my site here. This morning I got up and found 4 comment spams here. While that isnt very many in terms of some peoples blogs, for me, those 4 spams were equal to what I got in the last 4 months. So, no comments for the time being.

Go here for a good laugh.

Stay tuned for more posts later today.

Mixed Bag

Not a whole lot to write about tonight.

Worked for Manitoba Theatre for Young People today, another great gig. I really like working there. Today the crew was Catherine, Chris, Dean, Myself and Paul. I have know most of these people for at least 5 years or more and I have known Chris since grade 7. An idea occurred to me today that I think I will try and put into motion very soon.

The weather here today was the best its been in a while, with lots of sun and warmth. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed the weather when its like this. Even low temperatures seem excellent after the winter we've had.

Kim, one of my managers has left the grocery department where I work and it was sad to see her go. I will definately put her on my list of best bosses ever. Kim was very honest and helpful and never let an employee down. She got a wonderful promotion over to the Polo Park store as the Mens Wear manager. I think she will do an excellent job there.

No new news on the job front. Certainly any news you need to know will show up here asap.

Time for bed, sleep tight.

Dancing In The Flames

I am going to spend this wonderful Friday wishing someone out there in the wonderful world, is burning in hell today.

I hope this special someone finds out today that they are broke, owing money and are about to loose thier home. I hope they trip and fall down and someone steals thier wallet. I hope this special someone gets their car broken into and then stolen.

While I head off to work today to do menial labour for far too little money. I hope they are sitting at home worrying about when the collections agency is going to come and take their possessions.

I hope they dont have a nice day.
